Construction Details

• Heather grey canvas: The 10.5 oz cotton weave has a slight two-tone grain — lighter threads run through the darker grey base, so the shoe reads as textured rather than flat in person. The dye is garment-washed before assembly to reduce shrinkage after purchase.
• Gum rubber cupsole: The sole is a warm caramel color with a slight amber tint. It rises about 12 mm up the sidewall and meets the canvas at a clean foxing line. The gum compound used here is a 65-durometer hardness — softer than standard sneaker rubber, which means better floor grip but slightly faster wear on rough asphalt.
• Rubber toe cap: Extends roughly 3.5 cm from the front edge. The cap is the same gum-toned rubber as the sole, keeping the color palette to just two tones. Applied during the vulcanization heat cycle, so it's fused — not glued.
• Tonal stitching: Every stitch line is done in a grey thread that matches the canvas. The only seam that's slightly visible is the double-row backstay stitch at the heel, which is reinforced for structure. No contrast stitching anywhere.
• Diamond tread outsole: Shallow diamond shapes molded into the gum rubber bottom. The pattern covers the full sole from heel to toe — no separate heel plate. Works well on concrete, tile, and wood. On wet metal grating or polished marble, grip is limited.
• Nickel eyelets: Five pairs of nickel-finish stamped grommets. The silver tone against the grey canvas is subtle — visible up close but not from a distance. The grommets are rolled at the edges to prevent lace fraying.

Care Instructions

• Grey canvas hides dirt better than white but still shows salt stains in winter. Brush off dried mud or salt with a stiff nylon brush before it sets.
• For general cleaning, mix a teaspoon of mild detergent into a bowl of cold water. Dip a cloth in, wring it out, and wipe the canvas in long strokes. Don't scrub in circles — it can leave lighter patches on the dye.
• Machine wash on cold, gentle cycle only. Remove laces and the EVA sockliner first. Toss in a mesh laundry bag with a towel to balance the load. Air dry away from radiators or direct sun.
• The gum sole will pick up dark marks from rubber floors and escalator steps. Wipe these off with a damp cloth and a drop of vegetable oil — it dissolves the rubber transfer without damaging the gum finish.
